Book Review: Ensnared

By A. G. Howard

Series: Splintered #3

Publisher: Amulet Books

on January 6th, 2015

Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy

Overview: After surviving a disastrous battle at prom, Alyssa has embraced her madness and gained perspective. She’s determined to rescue her two worlds and the people and netherlings she loves. Even if it means challenging Queen Red to a final battle of wills and wiles . . . and even if the only way to Wonderland, now that the rabbit hole is closed, is through the looking-glass world—a parallel dimension filled with mutated and violent netherling outcasts.
In the final installment of the wildly popular Splintered trilogy, Alyssa and her dad journey into the heart of magic and mayhem in search of her mom and to set right all that’s gone wrong. Together with Jeb and Morpheus, they must salvage Wonderland from the decay and destruction that has ensnared it. But if they succeed and come out alive, can everyone truly have their happily ever after?

Review: I was so excited about this book that I had to stop in the middle of my current read so I could devour this entrancing and magical book. Upon opening the cover I was pleasantly surprised to see that the whole book was written in red ink. RED. It was such a lovely touch. I barely put down the book and was finished in less than 24 hours. Not that it’s a short book, because it’s almost 400 pages long. I was so wrapped up in the story that little else mattered. I followed Alyssa and co through the worlds of the looking-glass and wonderland in an attempt to find her mother and undo all the destruction done to the colorful lands. I recommend having tissues near by. I cried on a few occasions. The ending came all too quickly and I’m sad this is the end of Alyssa’s adventures. I may be more sad  that this is the end of Morpheus… I choose you!

If you like Alice in Wonderland and/or fairy tale retold with a twist this is a series for you. Five stars to Ensnared! I have a funny feeling this series will be on my re-read list by the end of the year.

Ten Books I’d Love To Read If I Had A Book Club

Hosted by The Broke and The Bookish

I don’t have a book club. I’ve had the opportunity to be a part some in person and online but it never lasts long. Maybe it’s that I’ve never found the right group of people to fail and cry with. But here are some that I have enjoyed reading and discussing with other people. The reading never happens at the same time but the emotions are still just as strong!

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

Day by Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne

Feed by Mira Grant

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama

Black Butler by Yana Toboso

Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier

Did you know that Lindsey @ Bring My Books is currently co-hosting a readalong for Daughter of the Forest?! Check it out and flail along with hashtag #DOTFreadalong.

Rimmel London Proctuct Review

Okay so today I am reviewing 2 Rimmel London products that I received complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover & Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner. I really enjoyed testing both of these products. The only difficult part was deciding when to try them out because I don’t usually wear makeup. I always feel like it looks funny on me… but the first attempt was on Christmas Eve and it went well but I needed another go at it and here are the results.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner

20150126_141718 20150126_141937 20150126_142217                                               No Makeup.       Eyeliner.             Eyeliner & Mascara.

I was super happy that the liner went on smooth and even. I think this definitely helps apply a straighter line and helps with the confidence of putting it on. I would still be careful because it does NOT want to come off for any mistakes! Like at all. It does smudge a bit when you first put it on.. remember this for the smokey eye. The color is bright and bold. I’m glad it came to me in black because I’m not sure I would have been brave enough to wear another color but now I’m very interested in how bright and beautify the other colors will look after application. (10 colors available) If the color is a bit too much you can tone it down with some neutral eye shadow. That’s what I did for Christmas Eve and it turned out lovely. Check it out here!

Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

20150126_142457 20150126_142647 20150126_142830                                            Remover with 3 pads. Result.     After my remover & face wash.

Alright, now to the other half of this equation. With eye makeup you must have a good and trusted makeup remover to use before bed, especially if you’re like me and have sensitive eyes and/or wear contacts. I do love that this remover is made for people with sensitive eyes and contact wears. It was made for me! How can I not be excited?? I used three pads for one eye, that seems like it would do the trick completely. While it did take off the mascara and most of the eyeliner it just did not have the results I wanted. Even if I am going to bed I don’t want to look like a raccoon! So I went to my trusted eye make up remover that never fails me and I was still in shock because I was still a raccoon… On to washing my entire face, sometimes that does the trick but no. I am impressed with the makeup remover because it worked and didn’t irritate my eyes at all. I don’t blame the remover for leaving me a raccoon, I blame the eyeliner. It was not meant to come off and holds too it!

Celestial Seasonings Review

Product Review for Celestial Seasoning Candy Cane Lane Tea

First Impressions: Color is good. Smell is amazing!

Taste Test: The tea was bland but had a small mint finish.

Bonus: Decaffeinated. This is a huge plus because I do not drink caffeine!

Over all I was disappointed. I was hoping to have found a new tea because I love mint but the tea did not taste like a candy cane. To be fair I am not a fan of green tea. Someone who loves green tea will absolutely love Candy Cane Lane. And I will still purchase Celestial Seasons teas, I love the Chamomile! I’m excited to buy the Honey Vanilla Chamomile next time I’m at the store.

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

What is your favorite type of hot tea??

Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To

As always hosted by The Broke and The Bookish

I always have the best intentions when it comes to reading new releases but somehow I always end up missing the books I was so excited about coming out. And I think I know why….. I am a mood reader. There I said it! I tell myself that I will read this book the moment it comes out because I’ve barely been able to contain my excitement over it but then.. life happens and it’s no longer what I need from a book, so it goes on my never-ending TBR list. Well here are ten that I purchased or borrowed but never actually read from last year.

How do you keep up with new releases??

Just pretend there is nothing past this. LoL Learning curve…

2015 Challenges

There are several challenges that I am excited to participate in this year! Having them all on one introductory post will help keep me organized and sane. If I find more as the weeks go on I’ll just update this post with the new information. Because I am doing several challenges my book goals will stay low but maintainable for each individual challenge. While a lot of my books could probably fall into several challenges, 1 book will only count for 1 challenge.

Re-read Challenge

Re-Read Challenge

I have been wanting to re-read some of my favorite books for awhile now and here’s the perfect excuses! My book goal is 12 books for this challenge. I have some listed below that I’m all too excited to read again but left some room for mood reading as well. A lot of these books were so incredible that I read them in 24-48 hours the first time around. I hope to fall in love with these all over again

-Grisha Trilogy  -Last 3 Harry Potter books  -Raven King Trilogy  -Queen of the Tearling

Flights of Fantasy Challenge

This will probably be the easiest portion of my challenges because the majority of my reads tend to fall under fantasy. Again my book goal is 12. I know it’s kind of low but I really want to branch out to other genres. Here are some of the books I’ve set aside:

-Pendragon Cycle  -The Hobbit  -Talon and Rogue  -Invasion of the Tearling

Fairytale Challenge

(Unless you are Snow White)_thumb[3]

As soon as I saw this was a challenge I was in! I think this may stem from my love for Disney and the brothers Grimm. I am going to aim for the Big Bad Wolf level (10-15 books)

-Ensanred  -Tiger Lily  -Alias Hook  -Sacrlet  -Queen of Hearts  -Princess of Thorns

Finishing the Series Challenge Finishing the Series

I need to do this so bad! I’m famous for starting a series but not finishing for one reason or another. I’m going to go for level 3 (expert) and finish 3 series! Here are my series and the books I need to finish.

The Mercy Thompson series: 3 Iron Kissed 4 Bone Crossed 5 Silver Borne 6 River Marked 7 Frost Burned 8 Night Broken

Iron Fey series: 4 The Iron Knight 5 The Lost Prince 6 The Iron Traitor

Kara Gillian series: 5 Touch of the Demon 6 Fury of the Demon 7 Vengeance of the Demon

52 Book Pickup Challenge

This challenge is hosted by my local library! I attempted this challenge last year but was late to the party and did not quite finish. This is my over all goal for reading and my Goodreads goal reflects this. Having several smaller reading challenges is really going to help me make it this year and it won’t seem so overwhelming.   Here are some of my favorite covers for the books listed above!
